We’re looking for Prison Support Officers (OSOs) to join our team at HMP Doncaster. You’ll play a vital role helping prison operations run smoothly.
What does the job involve?
You’ll report to the Custodial Operations Manager, supporting with various duties. You’ll be entrusted to: Clear the house blocks and kitchens rubbish twice daily. Clear all rubbish from under the windows and windblown around the grounds. Sort the waste to remove all recyclables from rubbish in the compound. Remove the food waste from the general waste. Coordinate the waste collections of bales, general waste, food waste (twice weekly). Arrange for skips that departments may need. On call for any areas that requires furniture removed. On call for vehicle fuel/oil spills inside and outside the prison. Assist areas that are short of staff by cross deploying. Shredding confidential waste. Liaising with R.I.D stores and work services to clear their rubbish when needed. Power hosing all areas as and when required. Clear all rubbish from the large exercise yards if required. Clear the rubbish from between the windows and grills Any other tasks that arise or emergencies. Administration duties i.e. completion of paperwork, liaising with third party waste contractors. Payment on CMS. Facilitation of prisoners Employment Passports To be a Key Worker
What we’re looking for
Essential: GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade C or above) or equivalent, plus good IT skills Desirable: Experience in a secure environment (e.g., prison service), knowledge of security procedures, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Skills: Strong organisation, analytical thinking, and attention to detail – reading and writing skills are important for report writing and interpreting data Team player: Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, visitors, and prisoners Trust and discretion: This role involves handling sensitive information with professionalism Other requirements: A full driving licence and flexibility to work shifts, which may include nights
