Job Title: HC Process Development Engineer Process Science Location: Port Sunlight Work-Level: WL1B5 MAIN JOB PURPOSE: The Home Care (HC) Process Development team in Port Sunlight is responsible for designing novel and appealing product innovation and renovation (supporting Fabric Cleaners, Fabric Enhancers and Home & Hygiene). JOB PURPOSE: Working in the 1HC Category Design Process Development Team as Process Development Engineer you will provide Unilever with world class capability to develop manufacturing processes that allow the launch and manufacture of Home Care products at targeted cost, quality and efficiency aligned to our Bright Future vision. Within the Process Development function, the Process Science team is responsible for exploring upstream/novel process and product technologies. This includes the development of new analytical methodologies to create data spaces and digital models of previously unknown interactions. These technology insights are used to develop deep domain expertise that ultimately supports the product design and delivers competitive advantage to stay three steps ahead. It requires the individual to develop a deep understanding of scale up principles, in-depth knowledge of manufacturing technology and material-process-product interactions. Process Development Engineers are not just technology specialists, but also work as integrators to bring needs from different functions and locations together into one technical solution. RESPONSIBILITIES Work independently to deliver a programme to: Work with international and interdisciplinary teams (R&D, Supply Chain, Procurement, etc.) to scale up and adapt bench-scale processes to pilot and manufacturing scale. Use process knowledge to help develop and deliver novel products and processes for new consumer offerings – care deeply about success. Generate ideas for new products and better ways to manufacture new and existing products. Devise and execute experimental programs with a digital and modelling mindset to validate successful scale up in lab, pilot plant or factory focusing on what counts. Analyse products and data from lab, pilot and main plant scale to gain process insights and develop digital models. Use or create advanced or novel characterisation techniques. Lead and/or support capability development workstreams around new technologies and/or new WoW, especially digital tools around data analytics and modelling. Must have a “hands-on” approach to pilot plant and laboratory activities. Need to be able to work in a safe, disciplined manner to deliver with excellence. ALL ABOUT YOU PhD in Chemical/Process Engineering or similar, or MEng/MSci with equivalent and relevant industrial research experience Additional relevant industrial experience advantageous Data mining, capture and analytics for problem solving and modelling Additional qualification in data science highly desirable In depth knowledge of rheology, thermodynamics, processing equipment principles and practices Process safety, including CoSHH knowledge/experience Excellent communication and presentation skills Experience in project management desirable Experience with laboratory analysis techniques essential Experience in working across Science and Technology, Global Design, Business unit R&D and/or factory roles advantageous NOTES Please apply via this portal as e-mail applications may not be processed and include your Future Fit Plan if possible.
