Research Assistant - Climate Change and Health

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. The Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia is one of the largest scientific research centres in sub-Saharan Africa, with an international reputation for ground-breaking research into some of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the tropics. We aim to improve people's health in developing countries by striving for excellence in research, healthcare, and training. Our research program spans basic scientific research, clinical studies, epidemiological studies and intervention trials, and translational research. The field and laboratory-based work draws on excellent research and clinical facilities and attracts international funding. 

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant role to join our Nutrition and Planetary Health Theme. The post-holder will join an interdisciplinary team in The Gambia working on modelling climate change impacts on human health to inform national climate change risk and vulnerability assessments for sub-Saharan African countries. 

The ideal candidate will have a relevant first degree in the field of health sciences, biology or another relevant topic and experience conducting novel environmental change and health research. Relevant analytical skills in critical evidence appraisal is essential. Some experience in communication and dissemination of policy-relevant results is desirable. Further particulars are included in the job description. 

The post is part-time 17.5 hours per-week, 0.5FTE and fixed-term for 12-months. The post is funded by German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and is available immediately.

The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary scale, Grade 5 in the range £39,182-£44,847 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London or The Gambia at LSHTM.
