Research Assistant (Part time, fixed term) (SOC

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant to support Dr Steve Iafrati in the Social Policy team (of the school of Sociology and Social Policy) with organising events to disseminate research regarding out of area housing as an element of contemporary challenges within housing provision. The successful applicant will liaise with Dr Iafrati and Dr Nick Clare (from the School of Geography) to develop a database of contacts within housing, share findings and organise two dissemination events. One of the events will in face-to-face in the West Midlands, and the other will be a virtual event. 

The successful applicant will understand the nature of what has been termed the ‘housing crisis’, including constituent areas of precarious housing such as temporary accommodation and out of area housing, as well as the ways in which this intersects with other areas of vulnerability. The research dissemination has a goal of reaching a diverse range of partners with the aim being to raise awareness, prompt discussion, and shape policy. Fundamental to this is recognising the position of local authorities in meeting their duty to accommodate amidst growing pressures on resources. The successful applicant will also have strong organisational skills as they will be required to develop a database of contacts and organise two events. 

The post is offered as a part-time (0.6 FTE, 21.75 hours per week) fixed-term contract for three months. The successful applicant will be able to work remotely though some travel may be required and potential meetings at the University of Nottingham as well as regular contact with Dr Steve Iafrati. Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
