We invite applications for a 12-month fixed-term Post-Doctoral Research Associate position funded through EPSRC project grant EP/R035342/1 “Transforming networks - building an intelligent optical infrastructure” (TRANSNET), to be undertaken within the Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AIPT) at the Aston University to carry out research on optical communications.
The successful candidate will be involved in the development of various machine learning methods for signal modulation, transmission and processing, for the fibre nonlinearity mitigation and the development of the new generation of extra-high-capacity optical networks. The project implies the high-level mathematical expertise of the Researcher and experimental validation of key transmission and digital signal processing concepts. It involves interaction with mathematicians, theoretical physicist, and optical engineers/industrial partners. You will be responsible for day-to-day supervision of Postgraduate students and for disseminating research results at regular meetings as well as to the wider scientific community.
As the successful candidate you will possess a Doctorate in photonics, optical communications or closely related field, or relevant industrial experience.
The AiPT is one of the world’s leading photonics research centres. The Institute pursues a diverse range of device-and-system-level topics at the leading edge of technology. The key research areas include high-speed optical transmission and processing, in fibre-based optical devices and components, nonlinear photonics, and in fibre optic sensors. Applicants are welcome to join a vibrant team of Researchers. AiPT cultivates a supportive and inclusive working environment where Academics, Post-Doctoral Researchers and Students cooperate to overcome major scientific challenges in a welcoming and collegial atmosphere.
Informal enquiries should be directed to Prof. S. K. Turitsyn (s.k.turitsyn@aston.ac.uk).
