Research Fellow in Health Impact Modelling

Job at London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in Greater London, WC1E

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Research Fellow to undertake health impact modelling on two projects related to the health of older people. The first project, ‘Accelerating Resilience and Climate Adaptation of Domestic Environments for vulnerable populations (ARCADE)’, aims to assist decision-makers to protect vulnerable individuals in adapting to climate change within their homes. The second, ‘Modelling the health, social care and macroeconomic impacts of dementia policies in the UK’, will produce evidence and advice on the health and macroeconomic impacts of dementia and on scaling-up investment in adult social care provision.

The successful applicant will have a post-graduate degree in epidemiology, environmental science or a related discipline, preferably a doctoral degree. Experience in conducting quantitative research is essential and experience of writing peer-reviewed publications would be an advantage. The post-holder will be supervised by Dr James Milner at LSHTM and will be expected to work closely with project partners and to liaise with external collaborators on each project.

The post is full-time 35 hours per week, 1.0 FTE and fixed term until 31 January 2027. The post is funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and is available from 01 May 2025.

The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary scale, Grade 6 £45,097 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.

Applications should be made on-line via our jobs website. Online applications will be accepted by the automated system until 10pm of the closing date. Any queries regarding the application process may be addressed to jobs@lshtm.ac.uk. Please quote reference PHP-PHES-2025-04.
