Senior Commercial and Tendering Manager (Construction)

Job at Lidl in Greater London

Senior Consultant (Store Construction – Commercial & Tendering) – A Career-Defining Opportunity at Lidl

Lidl is a dynamic and rapidly growing supermarket chain with ambitious expansion plans across the UK. To support this exciting growth, their Head Office Store Construction Department is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Commercial and Tendering Manager to join their Commercial Team. This role, with the internal title of Senior Consultant, offers a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional to make a tangible impact on the construction of Lidl's future stores.

This position is ideal for a candidate who is curious, collaborative, and driven to contribute to a leading retail organization. If you're looking to leverage your expertise in tendering and project management within a fast-paced, supportive environment, this role offers both significant responsibility and ample opportunities for career development.

Key Advantages for Candidates:

  • Competitive Remuneration & Benefits: A generous salary range of £68,200 - £99,000 per annum, coupled with 35 days of holiday (pro rata), a 10% in-store discount, a company car or allowance, and a comprehensive pension scheme, makes this a highly attractive package.
  • Hybrid Working Model: Lidl offers a well-balanced approach to work, allowing for three or more days in their state-of-the-art office environment, complete with an on-site gym and restaurant. This is complemented by up to two days of remote working, promoting a healthy work-life balance.
  • Impactful Role in Expansion: You will play a crucial role in supporting Lidl's nationwide store construction projects, contributing directly to the company's strategic growth and market presence.
  • Professional Development: The role is designed to foster growth, offering hands-on experience, responsibility, and the chance to develop your skills in a supportive team setting.
  • Collaborative Environment: Work within a collaborative team and build strong relationships with internal departments, external contractors, and consultants.
  • Diversity & Inclusion: Lidl is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, welcoming applicants from all backgrounds and fostering a fair, respectful, and inclusive workplace.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

This role is best suited for individuals who thrive on a mix of strategic oversight and hands-on execution. Candidates should be prepared for the following aspects of the position:

  • Tendering & Project Management Prowess: You will be instrumental in leading tender processes, ensuring competitiveness, appointing contractors, and managing pre-construction phases for projects across the UK. This requires a strong understanding of contract management, ideally with experience in JCT contracts.
  • Strategic Relationship Management: Building and nurturing robust working relationships with a network of external contractors and consultants will be vital to project success.
  • Quality & Cost Assurance: A key responsibility involves monitoring the quality of national projects through KPI reporting, site visits, and audits, while also developing and managing cost plans to identify and deliver savings.
  • Commercial Acumen: Demonstrating in-depth commercial knowledge, including financial analysis and forecasting, is essential for supporting decision-making and ensuring project viability.
  • Communication & Presentation Skills: Effectively communicating project updates, strategic plans, and recommendations to various stakeholders, including senior management, through detailed reports, briefings, and presentations is a core requirement.
  • Travel & Flexibility: A willingness to travel weekly for site visits, development days, and training sessions across the UK is expected. A full driving licence is also a requirement.
  • Adaptability & Proactiveness: The ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, handle conflicting deadlines, and proactively address any issues impacting project timelines will be crucial.
  • Policy & Process Improvement: You will have the opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of national procedures, policies, and processes, ensuring their effective implementation.

This is an exciting opportunity for a driven and experienced professional to advance their career within a leading retail organization. If you are ready to take on a challenging and rewarding role, and contribute to Lidl's continued success, we encourage you to apply.
