Job at Capita Group in

This review provides an overview of the Senior Pensions Technician (Maternity Cover, Fixed Term Contract, Home-Based) opportunity at Capita Pension Solutions, designed to help prospective candidates make informed career decisions.

About the Opportunity:

Capita Pension Solutions (CPS) is looking to welcome a Senior Pensions Technician on a fixed-term, home-based contract to cover maternity leave. As a "new force in the market," CPS is dedicated to creating "better outcomes and bright futures" by prioritizing people and pensions. The Consulting division, in particular, is a strategic growth area focused on enhancing client engagement, member outcomes, and leveraging technology for service improvement. This role positions you at the forefront of a dynamic and evolving industry, offering the chance to contribute to cutting-edge solutions.

What the Role Entails:

You will join a team working on diverse pension projects. Key responsibilities include the development, update, and authorization of scheme records and events, all while ensuring a high standard of customer service in terms of quality, cost, and time. This role offers significant autonomy and leadership potential:

  • Project Leadership: Take the lead on assigned projects, managing the full project lifecycle from inception to delivery, ensuring all deliverables, timelines, and quality standards are met.
  • Process Improvement: A core aspect of the role involves deeply understanding existing processes, identifying inefficiencies, and proposing and designing solutions for improvement. This is an excellent opportunity for those who enjoy problem-solving and driving positive change.
  • Technical Expertise: Contribute your technical knowledge to the team, specifically in areas such as scheme design analysis, system build understanding, and the development of recommendations.
  • Data Management & Analysis: This includes running and specifying data extracts, transforming and preparing data for uploads, building and enhancing Proforma templates, and performing bulk calculations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver agreed-upon solutions.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Actively share your expertise with team members to foster a culture of continuous learning and development.

Key Advantages for Candidates:

  • Career Advancement: Being part of a growing organization and industry offers excellent potential for skill development and future career progression. The emphasis on technology and continuous improvement means you'll be working with modern approaches.
  • Autonomy and Impact: The role offers significant responsibility and the opportunity to lead projects and drive tangible improvements within the department.
  • Flexibility: The position is fully home-based, providing a desirable work-life balance and the flexibility to manage your working environment.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Capita offers a strong benefits package including:
    • Generous holiday entitlement (23 days, rising to 27) with the option to buy more.
    • Company-matched pension and life assurance.
    • A cycle-to-work scheme.
    • Excellent parental leave policies, including 15 weeks fully paid maternity/adoption/shared parental leave and paternity pay.
    • A wide range of voluntary benefits including retail discounts, health and wellbeing programs, and travel/technology schemes.
    • The opportunity to take a paid volunteering day.
    • Access to Employee Network Groups for professional development and networking.
  • Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion: Capita is dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workforce and encourages applications from all backgrounds. They are a Disability Confident employer and are committed to providing a barrier-free recruitment process.

Key Considerations for Candidates:

  • Maternity Cover, Fixed Term: It's important to note this is a fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave. While it offers a valuable experience, candidates should be aware of the contract duration.
  • Essential Experience: A strong background in Defined Benefit (DB) pensions is essential. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in technical pension calculations and analysis, as well as bulk data manipulation and analysis.
  • Excel Proficiency: Advanced Excel skills are critical. This includes detailed knowledge of filters, sorting, pivot tables, and a range of formulas (lookups, IF statements, date calculations). Data import and validation are also key.
  • Project Management: Proven project management skills are required to effectively lead and deliver projects.
  • Desirable Skills: Experience with GMP (Guaranteed Minimum Pension) equalisation and holding a PMI (Pensions Management Institute) qualification would be advantageous.
  • Home-Based Role: While offering flexibility, a home-based role requires strong self-discipline, time management skills, and a suitable home working environment.

In Summary:

This Senior Pensions Technician role presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced pensions professional to contribute to a forward-thinking organization during a period of growth. If you possess strong technical pensions expertise, project management capabilities, and a passion for process improvement, this home-based, fixed-term position offers significant advantages, including career development, flexible working, and a comprehensive benefits package. Candidates should ensure they meet the essential experience requirements, particularly in DB pensions and advanced Excel skills.
