Your roleWe are looking for a talented scientist who will drive complex monomer synthesis in the development of novel optical films and components for advanced AR/VR devices. Working with a team of experts, your role will be to ensure that work is completed on time, deliver high-quality results, and present findings to project teams and stakeholders. You will report technical data to project leaders, take responsibility for lab equipment and safety, and implement COSHH and HSE standards in the Organic Chemistry Synthesis lab. You will have a good track record of efficiently synthesizing a number of target molecules and a demonstrated ability to overcome difficulties encountered while synthesizing new materials. Your results from complex experiments will directly influence project strategy. You will collaborate across departments and occasionally join customer meetings to support product development and research chemistry initiatives. Clear communication of complex topics to technical experts and cross-functional partners, including marketing, is essential. You will be encouraged to innovate beyond your immediate responsibilities and build a network within the wider Merck scientific community.

Who you are

University degree in Chemistry; a PhD in Chemistry is advantageous Experience in Organic Synthesis Experience in the synthesis of Liquid Crystal (LC) and Reactive Mesogen (RM) materials is highly advantageous Ability to create synthesis routes and synthesise LC and RM materials independently Profound experience in analytical methods such as NMR, IR spectroscopy, GCMS Experience in polymer chemistry and LC Science is desirable Experience in material scale-up is desirable Experience in drafting invention reports and managing IP portfolios is desirable Strong knowledge of Organic, Polymer, and Analytical Chemistry Ability to prepare technical reports and present to customers Collaborative and flexible mindset Passion for science and technology Ability to interpret results and suggest next steps
