Job at Merck Group in Haverhill, Suffolk

Ignite Your Career in Process Safety with a Global Leader

Are you a visionary in process safety, eager to shape global programs and empower organizations? This exceptional opportunity invites you to leverage your expertise in hazard assessment and consequence analysis within the dynamic Life Science sector of a leading science and technology company. This role is more than a position; it's a chance to "work your magic" and contribute to solutions that enrich lives across Healthcare, Life Science, and Electronics.

The Opportunity: A Strategic Role in Global EHS

As the Hazard Assessment and Consequence Analysis Leader, you will be instrumental in building and implementing a crucial business-level process safety program. You will serve as the go-to subject matter expert, guiding business leadership and operational sites across the globe. This role offers a unique platform to:

  • Develop and Deliver High-Impact Training: Design and conduct internal training on critical process safety methodologies, including PHA Facilitation, Facility Siting, LOPA completion, SIL Calculation, Quantitative Consequence Analysis, and Hazardous Enclosure Assessment.
  • Drive Global Program Implementation: Take ownership of developing and executing a comprehensive global program, ensuring consistent application of corporate EHS governance.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert: Contribute your deep technical knowledge to incident investigations, quantitative consequence analysis, and the development of best practices and documentation.
  • Build Strategic Partnerships: Cultivate relationships with third-party consultants, ensuring robust support for specialized tasks.

Key Advantages for Your Career Path:

  • Global Impact: Influence safety standards and practices across a multinational organization, directly impacting millions.
  • Leadership and Program Development: This role is designed for individuals who want to build and lead programs, offering significant growth in strategic planning and execution.
  • Technical Mastery: Deepen your expertise in advanced process safety techniques and contribute to cutting-edge scientific and technological solutions.
  • Flexible Work Environment: Embrace a hybrid or onsite work model within the UK, with preferred locations in Haverhill or Irvine, offering a strong work-life balance.
  • Continuous Learning: Be part of a company that values curiosity and provides ample opportunities for personal and professional development.

Key Considerations for Aspiring Candidates:

This role is ideally suited for a seasoned professional with a strong foundation in process safety and a proven ability to lead and influence. To thrive in this position, consider the following:

  • Technical Acumen: A solid understanding of process safety principles, including PHA methodologies (HAZOP preferred), LOPA, SIL calculations, and quantitative consequence analysis is essential. Experience with relevant software (e.g., PHAWorks, PHAST, ALOHA, HYSYS) is highly beneficial.
  • Leadership and Communication: You'll need to effectively communicate complex technical information to diverse stakeholders at all levels, from site operators to senior leadership. Demonstrated experience in delivering technical training is a significant advantage.
  • Program Building Experience: While not strictly mandatory, a background in building and implementing process safety programs will be a strong differentiator.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with global process safety regulations (e.g., OSHA PSM, Seveso III, COMAH) is crucial for effective program implementation.
  • Adaptability: The ability to travel (<15% annually) both domestically and internationally to support site programs is required. A willingness to work in potentially hazardous environments, including areas with specific PPE requirements, is also a consideration.

If you are driven by innovation, passionate about safety, and ready to make a substantial contribution to a company shaping the future, this opportunity is an excellent next step in your career journey. Join a team that champions human progress and sparks discovery.
