Job Title: Sustainable Flexible Packaging - Data Scientist Location: Port Sunlight Research Lab Work-Level: RH3 JOB PURPOSE The One Packaging R&D Centre (OPC) aims to create a waste-free, net zero packaging portfolio through a world class packaging materials capability with strong partnerships and ecosystems. The Centre will enable and accelerate the creation of novel packaging solutions to help meet Unilever packaging ambitions and completely revolutionize our packaging with a particular focus on our flexibles portfolio. RESPONSIBILITIES As part of our world-class âSustainable Packaging Digital Futuresâ team, you will play a key role in our sustainable packaging programme, supporting and coordinating our digital transformation across OPC and accelerating it through the application of data science to our ways of working and programme challenges. The key accountabilities for the role holder are as follows :- Collaborate with digital experts (inside and outside the OPC and Unilever), develop and apply in-silico tools to drive predictive modelling for new materials selection and optimisation. Work within the team to leverage the external world, liaising with existing and potentially new ecosystem partners in the development of future sustainable packaging materials via digital tools and techniques. Coordinate and support the implementation and deployment of digital tools and capabilities into the One Packaging R&D centre and into Business Groups. Act as the product owner for OPC data-driven tools and models hosted on R&D enterprise platform âDataLabâ and actively build the OPC digital capability through the leverage of both R&D and cross-functional product data Facilitate the adoption of digital by being an early adopter of new tools and harnessing the feedback to make any necessary changes to lower the barrier to entry for others. Manipulating data from a wide range of sources and applying new skills in computer science, data analytics, statistics, and generative AI to solve complex business problems. Technical Qualifications and Experience A higher-education qualification (BSc or MSc) in Data Science, Statistics or Mathematics or a closely related discipline which can be applied to the digital challenges posed by the sustainable packaging programmes within OPC. Experience of working in industrial research is desirable but not essential. Proactive problem solver with strong data analytical skills and an ability to interpret data to pull out key insights. Proven ability to generate and develop innovative approaches to solve problems or tackle opportunities. Ability to work in multidisciplinary projects and teams. Work effectively with Industrial partners and academic institutions. Evidence of ability to develop strong networks to enable delivery. Excellent presentation and communication skills with an ability to bring to life, in a clear and engaging way, the enabling power of digital in the development of technologies and innovations.
