Job Description Valves and CMV Producibility Design Group Lead Full Time Derby The Valves and CMV Producibility team we have responsibility ownership of the methods of manufacture for SSNA, Dreadnought and Current Class products. The Design Group Lead is responsible for the technical management of the Coolers, Miscellaneous Vessel (CMV) and Valves Producibility design sections. The key accountabilities of the team include: Developing improvements and embedding them within the method of manufacture in PCO and the supply chain. Supporting production issues, utilising problem-solving skills to provide robust and appropriate solutions. Implementation of continuous improvement (of tools, processes, and methods) with prompt action across the wider team. Providing support to through life safety issues within the Valves and CMV products. Why Rolls-Royce? What you will be doing: - To produce robust design solutions which are insensitive to variation to address specified requirements. - To collaborate and communicate design solution information with task stakeholders. - To search for, capture, store, and re-use knowledge relating to design activity. - To understand and apply the commodity standards and to create new standards where none exist. - To liaise with manufacturing and supply chain to actively integrate the experience and knowledge from these areas. - To check own and others design a solution and technical for completeness and correctness. - To manage work in accordance with project cost, timescale, and quality targets. - Is responsible for planning, project managing and delivering technical packages/investigations in line with programme milestones within agreed cost, timescale and quality requirements, including managing inputs from specialist areas and integrating activities to achieve the defined requirements. - To understand company business and function objectives and to always act in accordance with both the company values and those associated with being a professional engineer. - To actively promote, encourage and support the identification and implementation of continuous improvement (of tools, processes and methods) both within and outside their immediate sphere and prompt action across the wider team. - To support Supplier assessments, qualification and improvement activities. - To define and deliver robust verification, Safety Justification and qualification strategies and their outputs. - To lead the resolution and recovery from emergent issues. - To participate in Design support activities during production, build, maintenance and decommissioning of components. - Where an individual is leading people/teams: - Develops and pro-actively assesses internal and external resource, contributing and supporting their capability development in line with business need. - Create and promote a compliance culture within your team. Ensure team members understand and are complaint with company policies, procedures and standards (including the RRMS) and in an ethical manner. - Ensure team members understand and maintain a focus on efficiency and continuous improvement. Encourage teams to innovate and challenge the status quo whilst maintaining high standards of process compliance and product safety. They are the fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles. - Bachelor's degree, Master's or PhD in Engineering or regional equivalent qualification or equivalent technical capability based on practical knowledge and experience. - Technical experience relevant to the engineering discipline. - An ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems. - Knowledge and experience of product integrity / liability and justification. - Membership of a relevant professional body or working towards. - Experience as design engineer operating across the product life cycle, undertaking design safety justification activities supporting manufacturing, integration, maintenance /refit activities and dealing with operational issues. - Experience of Research and development, analytical and test verification activities. - Experience in the development of methods, standards and processes. - Experience of managing work packages and people Please be aware that the priority will be given to employees identified as being at high risk.   The professional level and the salary of the position will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.   It is advised that you inform your current manager of your application for this role.
