This position offers a unique chance to be at the forefront of innovation, contributing to the manufacture of critical components for the fleet. You'll be instrumental in developing and implementing a diverse range of welding techniques, from manual to highly automated and mechanized processes, ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency for Primary Circuit and Core components.

Why Choose This Opportunity?

Working with Rolls-Royce Submarines is more than just a job; it's an invitation to be part of a legacy of engineering excellence. As a brand synonymous with innovation for over a century, Rolls-Royce designs, builds, and services systems where safety and reliability are paramount. This role offers:

Key Responsibilities and What You'll Be Doing:

In this dynamic role, you will have the chance to:

  • Influence Design & Manufacture: Play a pivotal role in shaping the design and manufacturing processes of critical components within the Submarines Pressurised Water Reactor system.
  • Technical Leadership: Select, implement, and qualify appropriate welding techniques, processes, and procedures to uphold stringent quality and efficiency standards.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Lead and execute initiatives for process enhancement, from initial concept through to successful implementation.
  • Optimize Manufacturing: Drive improvements in manufacturing processes, factory performance, and production flow to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Collaborate Effectively: Work closely with Manufacturing and Engineering teams, providing specialist welding and process expertise.
  • Problem Solve on the Shop Floor: Support shop-floor activities by resolving non-conformances, conducting root-cause investigations, and enhancing cell performance.
  • Maintain Welder Competency: Assist welders and manage welder qualifications in line with both internal and industry standards.
  • Contribute to Strategic Goals: Participate in manufacturing meetings and reviews to ensure the achievement of SQCDP (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, People) metrics and alignment with business objectives.

What We're Looking For:

Rolls-Royce thrives on a culture of agility, boldness, collaboration, and simplicity. To excel in this role, candidates should possess:

  • Strong Technical Foundation: Professional welding qualifications (e.g., IIW/EWF Welding Engineer or Technologist, IEng or CEng status, MSc Welding Engineering) are highly beneficial. A Professionally Qualified Engineer with a minimum of an HND/foundation degree in an engineering discipline is essential.
  • Welding Process Expertise: Competency in identifying, developing, qualifying, and justifying welding techniques according to relevant design codes, ideally within a relevant industry.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Demonstrated experience working with boiler and pressure vessel design and manufacturing standards. A deep understanding of product and process safety, ensuring adherence to regulatory, code, design, manufacturing, and Quality Assurance requirements is crucial.
  • Project Management Skills: Proven ability to define, plan, monitor, and control projects and work packages, ensuring delivery within cost, quality, and schedule parameters.
  • Effective Communication: The ability to articulate complex technical information clearly and concisely, while developing manufacturing methods that meet business requirements and design intent.
  • Adaptability: A strong ability to integrate within a large organization operating in a high-pressure environment.
  • Desirable Skills: Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills are highly desirable.

Important Considerations for Candidates:

  • Security Clearance: To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines, you must hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats. Rolls-Royce will support your application for this if you do not currently hold one.
  • Nationality: Due to the sensitive nature of the work and the protection of certain assets, you must hold UK nationality. Dual nationals will undergo additional scrutiny and background checks.
  • Location: This is an onsite role based in Derby, working on a day shift pattern.
  • Assessment: Depending on your location, you may be required to complete an online assessment as part of the selection process.

This is a remarkable opportunity to contribute to a vital sector, enhance your skills, and be part of an organization that is shaping the future of power. If you are a driven and skilled Welding Engineer ready for a challenging and rewarding career move, we encourage you to explore this exciting prospect.
