The Surrey Institute for People-Centred AI (PAI) presents an exciting opportunity for an exceptional CDT Programme Manager to join their groundbreaking UKRI-funded Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in AI for Digital Media Inclusion.

This pivotal role is designed for individuals driven by a vision of empowering the next generation of PhD researchers to develop AI technologies that are not only innovative but also deeply representative of and beneficial to all individuals. If you are energized by inclusive innovation and the transformative power of AI, this position offers a unique platform to make a significant impact.

Key Advantages for Candidates:

  • Strategic Influence: Play a central role in leading and delivering all operational and strategic activities for the CDT across two partner universities. You will have the autonomy to ensure high standards, responsible governance, and accountability, directly influencing the success of this vital research initiative.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the primary point of contact for a diverse and dynamic network of stakeholders, including PhD researchers, academic colleagues, and industry collaborators. This offers unparalleled opportunities for networking and building valuable professional relationships.
  • Mission Alignment: Work closely with the CDT leadership and the PAI Director of Strategy, aligning your efforts with Surrey's core mission in People-Centred AI. This is an opportunity to contribute to a globally recognized leader in responsible AI development.
  • Impactful Research Focus: Be at the forefront of research aimed at building inclusive AI technologies. This role allows you to directly contribute to a future where AI-enabled digital media is reflective, responsible, and truly inclusive.
  • Supportive and Flexible Environment: The Surrey Institute for People-Centred AI fosters a supportive and inclusive working environment. They offer a generous pension, relocation assistance, flexible working options (including blended home/campus arrangements), access to excellent leisure facilities, comprehensive family-friendly benefits, and an onsite nursery. They are proud to be a Disability Confident and Equal Opportunities employer.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • Complex Environments: This role thrives in complex, collaborative, and cross-institutional settings. Candidates should be comfortable navigating diverse perspectives and managing multiple priorities across different academic and research bodies.
  • Programme/Project Management Expertise: Significant experience in programme or project management is essential, ideally within the research, innovation, or higher education sectors. Your ability to plan, execute, and oversee initiatives will be crucial.
  • Communication and Empathy: Excellent communication skills, characterized by clarity, empathy, and professionalism, are paramount. You will be engaging with a wide array of individuals, from early-career researchers to senior academics and industry partners.
  • Commitment to Inclusivity: A deep commitment to creating equitable, inclusive, and accessible opportunities is a core requirement. If you are driven by fostering an environment where everyone can thrive, this role aligns perfectly with your values.
  • Proactive and Enthusiastic Approach: A proactive attitude, fueled by enthusiasm for AI and creative technologies, will be key to your success. You will be expected to drive initiatives and inspire those around you.

This position is a Fixed Term contract until October 2028, offering a salary in the range of £47,389 to £56,535. The application deadline is 1 December 2025, with interviews scheduled for 17 December 2025.

If you are ready to lead and inspire in the vital field of inclusive AI, this is an exceptional opportunity to advance your career and contribute to a more equitable digital future.
