It’s an invitation to contribute to a business that is not only a cornerstone of national defence but is also actively growing its capabilities.

Advantages for Candidates:

  • Impactful Work: Directly contribute to the design and improvement of vital component and assembly designs, ensuring the highest standards of life, cost, availability, and safety margins for nuclear submarine propulsion systems.

  • Flexible Working: The opportunity to balance work and personal life through a hybrid working model, offering flexibility while ensuring essential in-person collaboration.

Key Considerations for Candidates:

  • Proven Mechanical Design Experience: While the role is within the Submarines business, experience in mechanical engineering design from concept to delivery is paramount. This can be gained across various industries, including but not limited to Civil Nuclear, Marine, Petro-Chemical, and Oil & Gas.
  • Leadership Potential: The role explicitly seeks individuals with experience as a group lead or those demonstrating strong potential for leadership, including supervision, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Commitment to Safety and Principles: Rolls-Royce places a strong emphasis on safety, integrity, simplicity, and making a difference. Candidates will be assessed on their alignment with these core behaviours.
  • Security Clearance: A Security Check clearance is a requirement for this role. Rolls-Royce will support the application process if you do not currently hold this.
  • Nationality Requirements: Due to the nature of the work and asset protection, only UK nationals or, in specific MoD-approved cases, dual nationals are eligible to apply.
  • Educational Background: While a Degree Qualification or Apprentice Trained in a relevant engineering discipline is preferable, extensive relevant experience is equally valued.
