About us

G4S Care & Rehabilitation Services (CaRS) successfully manages four prisons, one secure training centre and a number of community contracts across England and Wales. The philosophy of our business is to rehabilitate young people and equip them with the skills needed to resettle back into society. Our aim is to create an environment in which our employees and our young people feel safe and supported.

G4S Oakhill Secure Training Centre (STC) cares for children aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The children in our care can be vulnerable and challenging, with a wide range of complex social and emotional needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for children to develop their life skills and address their previous behaviours. We aim to support change and learning.

We want the children in our care to leave better equipped for life emotionally, mentally, physically, and socially. About the role

Oakhill STC is a fast paced complex and challenging environment. The successful candidate needs to be resilient, innovative and passionate about changing and shaping lives whilst playing a pivotal part in ensuring the Education regime at the centre balances safety, safeguarding, health, wellbeing and learning and development opportunities for young people.

You will assist the Head of Education in the provision of effective Education Services across the Centre ensuring contractual compliance whilst promoting the safeguarding of young peoples needs.

This is an opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of children. You will motivate, inspire and lead them to success, despite the significant challenges of managing a complex environment.

Some of the key responsibilities of this role are:

Assist in the management of the provision of education within the Centre so that a professional service in line with the national curriculum, contractual requirements, best practice and safeguarding standards is provided. Assist in the planning and implementation of the timetable to ensure all young people have access to a broad and balanced education programme that meets their needs and provides opportunities for nationally recognised accreditation. Coach and support staff, including supervision, to maximise their performance and ensure values, ethical standards, equality and diversity, policies and procedures, legislation and contractual and inspection framework requirements are met. Manage the daily resourcing of the department, including delivering teaching as necessary, to ensure the continuity of education provision. Assist in establishing effective communications ensuring that relevant documentation, information and reporting is processed and disseminated both accurately and in a timely manner in line with inspection, company and contractual requirements. Assist in the selection, training and development of professional teaching and support staff to ensure service delivery is optimised. Liaise with relevant stakeholders to ensure young peoples needs are met, the sharing of best practice and continuous improvement in the educational service provided.

The Ideal Candidate:

About you

To succeed in this role, you will need to be a dynamic and engaging individual, hold a professional teaching qualification with teaching experience in an educational setting covering 14 – 18 year olds, including special needs. The role will require you to promote a child centred approach which prioritises both the safeguarding of the childrens welfare and wellbeing as well as ensuring that a stable and secure environment is provided for all the children and staff at the Centre.

Leading by example, we are looking for a highly motivated and determined Manager, with the ability to be resilient, confident with a tenacious can-do attitude. It is key that you are flexible and adaptable to deal with ever-changing scenarios.

This role is subject to a checkable history and the strict vetting standards set by G4S and the Youth Custody Services and are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. You must be eligible to work in the UK and must have been resident in the UK for a minimum period of 3 years. You will also need to provide full details of your employment and education history as part of the security screening process for this role.

It is every employees responsibility to promote and safeguard the welfare of the children in our care; as such all employees are required to hold a current Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Scheme) Certificate.
