Barclays UK Seeks Visionary Director for International & High Value Payments: An Opportunity to Shape the Future of Global Transactions

Barclays UK is actively seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to spearhead its International & High Value Payments division. This pivotal role offers a unique opportunity to define and execute the end-to-end strategy for critical payment services, including CHAPS and International Payments. If you are passionate about revolutionizing customer and colleague payment journeys, possess a keen understanding of financial performance, and thrive in a collaborative, innovative environment, this could be your next impactful career move.

Reporting directly to the MD, Head of Payments, the successful candidate will play an instrumental role in shaping the future of Barclays UK's payment landscape. You will collaborate extensively across the Barclays Group, partnering with Technology, Operations, and key stakeholders in Corporate, Private, and the Investment Bank to ensure payments are a true differentiator for the bank.

Advantages for Aspiring Candidates:

  • Strategic Influence: Drive a 3-5 year roadmap, championing innovation, and leading the development of new payment products and features. You will have a direct impact on the strategic direction of a significant financial service.
  • End-to-End Ownership: Manage the entire product lifecycle, from ideation and business case development to regulatory compliance, operational resilience, and commercial viability. This provides a comprehensive experience in product management.
  • Pivotal Market Engagement: Take joint ownership of the FX P&L, manage crucial scheme relationships, and lead regulatory engagement, representing Barclays UK in key industry forums and influencing market direction.
  • Customer-Centric Innovation: Oversee the optimization of customer and colleague journeys, focusing on reducing friction, enhancing satisfaction, and embedding robust controls for a seamless experience.
  • Leadership & Team Development: Build and lead a high-performing, inclusive team, fostering a culture of collaboration, experimentation, and continuous improvement. This role offers significant opportunities for people management and leadership development.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with diverse teams across Barclays, including Technology, Operations, and various banking divisions, fostering strong internal relationships and driving integrated solutions.
  • Drive for Digital Transformation: Play a key role in embedding payments into digital journeys and enabling future-ready propositions, contributing to Barclays' overall digital transformation agenda.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • Strategic Vision & Execution: This role demands a forward-thinking approach to align payment strategies with broader Barclays UK objectives, particularly within Mass Affluent and Youth segments. You'll need to balance long-term vision with pragmatic execution.
  • Complex Stakeholder Management: Success will hinge on your ability to influence and build strong relationships across a wide spectrum of internal and external stakeholders, from senior leadership within Barclays to industry bodies and regulatory authorities.
  • Deep Market & Regulatory Acumen: A thorough understanding of market trends, competitive landscapes, and the evolving regulatory environment for international and high-value payments is essential. You'll be at the forefront of industry changes like ISO20022 and G20 Cross Border targets.
  • Commercial Acumen & Financial Stewardship: You will be responsible for managing P&L performance and pricing strategies. A strong grasp of financial drivers and the ability to balance commercial objectives with customer value will be critical.
  • Risk & Resilience Leadership: As the owner of important business services, you will be accountable for ensuring the resilience and robust risk management of International & High Value Payments, including contingency planning and resilience testing.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to use data to inform decisions, solve complex problems in sensitive situations, and drive performance improvements is paramount.
  • Agile & Customer-Centric Product Development: Experience with agile methodologies and a commitment to customer-centric design will be key to successfully developing and launching new payment propositions.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced leader to make a significant impact on the payments landscape at one of the UK's leading financial institutions. If you are ready to take on a role that combines strategic leadership, operational excellence, and impactful innovation, we encourage you to explore this exciting prospect.
