ERTMS Project Engineer

Join our Leeds team as an ERTMS Project Engineer on a full-time permanent basis. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ERTMS Project Engineer to join Freightliner to work as a part of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) Programme Team. The preferred candidate will report to the ERTMS Programme Lead Engineer and will work alongside other members of the team, and across the wider business, to support the successful roll out ERTMS within the company. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of shaping the future of rail technology, with the opportunity to develop your skills on an industry-leading project driving innovation across the freight sector. Responsibilities will include: Supporting the installation, testing, and reliability of ETCS roll out across Freightliner's Class 66 fleet Working with industry stakeholders to help identify and optimise efficiencies and improvement opportunities throughout the rollout process Supporting the scrutiny of onboard designs, including in-house testing of locomotives, analysis of electrical and pneumatic diagrams, modification and testing procedures, structural calculations, and safety compliance Inputting into the review and development of new and existing Freightliner policies, standards and procedures to reflect the introduction of ERTMS Working with the business to introduce the additional physical and operational depot requirements as defined by the ETCS maintenance policies and procedures Producing concise progress reports, and appropriately raising engineering risks and issues to Senior Engineering Management Ensuring Freightliner's day-to-day operations are not jeopardised by the introduction of ERTMS by helping identify opportunities for operational and technical improvements during this transition Representing Freightliner in wider freight industry ERTMS development workshops. Requirements: This role requires a high level of motivation with a flexible attitude and the ability to work under pressure A proven background in the development and introduction of ETCS onboard systems or strong knowledge of traction and rolling stock fleet, in particular Class 66 vehicles Knowledge of Freightliner's wider business operations A strong background in engineering, coupled with a track record in managing projects, is desirable A good understanding of legislative requirements (in particular RIR, ROGS and Railway Group Standards) is required for this role The successful candidate will be ideally degree qualified or working towards an engineering degree qualification D ue to the role requirements the preferred candidate must live within commutable distance from our Leeds Vehicle Maintenance Facility.
