This is a chance to lead a critical mission-aligned operating model within a dynamic and evolving area of the business. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of Barclays' digital offerings, directly impacting customer experience through technological innovation.

Advantages for Potential Candidates:

  • Strategic Impact: Be a key player in a new and strategically important domain, with the opportunity to influence the direction and evolution of Barclays' network infrastructure.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

This position requires a robust technical foundation and proven leadership capabilities. Candidates should carefully consider the following:

  • Deep Technical Expertise: The role demands extensive knowledge across all seven layers of the OSI model, with specific expertise in areas like L1-4 protocols, transport technologies, wireless standards, and overlay IP/VPN technologies. A strong understanding of Software Defined Networking and network instrumentation is crucial.
  • Virtualization and Cloud Acumen: Experience with virtual infrastructure ecosystems (Openstack, Kubernetes, HCI) and cloud platforms (Public/Private/Hybrid) is essential. Familiarity with open networking technologies and Linux networking is highly valued.
  • Automation and IaC Proficiency: A strong command of network programming, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), configuration management tools, and data modeling is a core requirement. Demonstrable experience with DevOps practices is expected.
  • Operational and Product Engineering Experience: While technical design is key, experience in operational product engineering, including network element management, SDN controllers, and ETSI MANO, is highly beneficial.
  • Security Focus: Knowledge of Network Access Control (NAC), RADIUS-based AAA, and zero-trust networking concepts will be advantageous.
  • Lifecycle Management: Proven ability in the full lifecycle management of network products and services, from requirements analysis to large-scale deployment, including proficiency in Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) and SRE reporting, is expected.
  • Leadership and Strategic Thinking: As a manager, you'll be responsible for team leadership, performance management, and contributing to strategic planning. The Barclays LEAD behaviours (Listen, Energise, Align, Develop) are integral to success.

This role is based in Barclays' London office and offers an exceptional platform for seasoned engineering leaders to make a significant impact within a forward-thinking financial institution.
