The School of Life and Health Sciences is seeking an Executive Personal Assistant to join our newly established School Leadership Team. The School is made up of three departments, namely Health and Social Care Professions, Life and Sports Science and Psychology and Counselling, boasting state of the art facilities and a broad range of courses on offer. In this pivotal role, you will provide high-level executive support to the Dean of School and play a key part in advancing the University’s ambitious, future-focused Strategic Plan.
We are looking for a highly organised, proactive, and detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Working closely with the Dean, you will deliver confidential, professional support and ensure the smooth coordination of day-to-day operations. Exceptional communication skills, sound judgement, and the ability to manage a varied and demanding workload are essential.
Reporting to the Director of School Operations, you will take ownership of your responsibilities, manage a complex diary, and work flexibly to meet key business needs, activities, and deadlines. Building strong relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders will be vital, as will your ability to support the planning and delivery of high-profile events.
You will bring significant experience as an Executive Assistant or senior administrator, with a proven track record of providing high-level support and managing competing priorities. You will be educated to degree level or hold an equivalent professional qualification, or be able to demonstrate relevant experience that highlights your initiative, decision-making, and problem-solving skills in a dynamic, multifaceted environment.
External relationships are central to school business, so the post holder will be a confident, highly skilled communicator who engages with clarity, confidence, and diplomacy, while exercising the utmost discretion when handling confidential or sensitive information. Your ability to process and interpret large volumes of information quickly—including producing accurate minutes, records, and follow-up actions—will be essential. You will also be adept at working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
This is a hybrid role, with three days per week on campus (subject to business need). The position is based at our City South campus, with occasional cross-campus travel required.
The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. Appointees with prior LGPS membership who wish to enter the LGPS scheme will be able to do so and will be employed by Birmingham City University directly.
We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and to an environment that supports lawful free speech and academic freedom. We will continuously review and improve our policies, practices, and procedures to ensure that we are promoting these in all aspects of our operations. We believe that by working together, combining our many different backgrounds and life experiences, we will empower each other to reach our full potential.
