Birmingham City University is a large and dynamic place to study right in the heart of the city and we currently have an opportunity for someone to join our IT Department as an IT Training and Development Officer. 

The IT Training Team is responsible for the oversight and delivery of the IT Training Strategy and the IT Academy of BCU students and graduates with focus on eLearning and digital literacy. This includes the development and delivery of learning materials and content in order to develop the business and technical skills of staff and students required by the University.

In this role, you will be supporting and training staff and students on a range of software and applications, supporting student events such as open days and welcome week, and helping to shape and develop our IT Training Strategy.

The IT Training and Development Officer will use a range of techniques, resources and media (including eLearning, virtual classrooms, self-assessment, peer-assisted learning, simulation and evaluation tools) to provide the training.  

Train staff and students in IT knowledge, techniques, and skills using appropriate methods, equipment, and content.Provide detailed instruction, where necessary, and respond to staff and student queries using the IT Service Desk.Contribute to the maintenance and update of training records and the published training portfolio.Create and maintain training materials and documentation, including video content.Design and deliver starter, beginner, and intermediate workshops for various applications and software.Design and develop online and digital content (including eLearning)Develop and deliver the portfolio of training aligned to the IT Training StrategyDeliver IT Staff Inductions.Evaluate the training delivery mechanisms and content to contribute to continual service improvement.Explore new approaches to, and make recommendations on, developing and delivering training.Contribute to the successful implementation of IT projects through the provision of an effective training plan.Contribute to the support and mentoring program provided to the IT AcademyEducated to bachelor degree level or holds a relevant professional qualification.Experience of providing support for teaching, instruction, and training activitiesProficient experience in using Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office applications.Good communication skills with the ability to enthuse, persuade, and influence.Experience of the tools and support services available within the training arena.Knowledge of the selection and application of information gathering methods, tools and techniques which are appropriate to the information required and the sources available.Experience of the methods and techniques for delivering effective presentations, making effective use of own time, and creating and delivering effective learning and development content

The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. Appointees with prior LGPS membership who wish to enter the LGPS scheme will be able to do so and will be employed by Birmingham City University directly.
