The Estates and Facilities department at Birmingham City University is seeking a dedicated and proactive Facilities Assistant to join our team. Based across our multiple campus sites in Birmingham City Centre, you will work closely with a facilities Supervisor, bringing a professional, flexible, and enthusiastic approach to delivering exceptional customer service and facilities management support. Our aim is to uphold the university’s core values through efficient and effective service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Frontline Services:
Respond to soft facilities service requests through the Estates and Facilities Helpdesk.Perform general porterage tasks, first-line repairs, and fault reporting.Manage room layouts and assist with light replacements.Oversee periodic high-level activities.Furniture Layout and Support:
Ensure furniture arrangements in teaching spaces, exam rooms, and event venues meet customer specifications.Inspect equipment and address any maintenance issues.Repairs and Emergency Assistance:
Handle frontline repairs, including issues like toilet blockages, water leaks, heating, ventilation, and lighting failures.Assist with building incidents and emergencies as required.Safety and Compliance:
Conduct weekly fire alarm tests and maintain accurate records.Perform daily, weekly, and monthly building inspections to ensure health and safety and environmental compliance.Customer Interaction:
Report repairs and maintenance requests through the Estates and Facilities Helpdesk portal.Provide timely updates on job progress and resolve issues efficiently.Support faculty and student events, including Open Days (occasionally, during weekends).Collaboration:
Work closely with other operational teams, including Security and the Student Union, to meet customer expectations.What We Are Looking For:
To succeed in this role, you should have:
Experience in a customer-focused environment.A collaborative team spirit with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.Strong communication skills, with an emphasis on delivering excellent service.Familiarity with general building maintenance and repair tasks (advantageous).Essential Skills:
Clear communication, especially through email.Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Outlook, Teams, and Excel.Experience using handheld devices (PDA).A solid understanding of health and safety best practices.A full, clean driving licence - (Desirable)About Birmingham City University:
