We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Information Governance Assistant to provide high-quality, efficient and effective support to the University’s Information Mangement Team. This role plays a vital part in supporting the University’s compliance with data protection and information management responsibilities, including Data Protection, Freedom of Information (FOI), and records management.
You will support the Legal Services Team by delivering excellent administrative and advisory assistance across a wide range of information governance and legal compliance activities. This includes maintaining accurate records, supporting casework, assisting with policy development, and helping deliver training across the University.
You will demonstrate a high level of literacy and numeracy, together with excellent IT skills, including advanced use of web-based systems and word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software, ideally Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. You will have experience of delivering high-quality customer service in a complex environment and of maintaining governance or other complex records with a high degree of accuracy. You will be able to communicate clearly and appropriately with a wide range of audiences and have the ability to understand, interpret, and explain data protection and information governance concepts and guidance to third parties, students, and colleagues. Education to first degree level is desirable, and a recognised subject-specific qualification or professional certification in data protection, information governance, or a related discipline would be advantageous.
The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. Appointees with prior LGPS membership who wish to enter the LGPS scheme will be able to do so and will be employed by Birmingham City University directly.
