The Role

The School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences (ECLS) is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Educational Psychology. You will join a committed, flexible, and innovative team, making a significant contribution to the delivery, management, and development of the University’s Educational Psychology (DAppEdPsy) programme. You will have knowledge and understanding of contemporary research and development in the field of Educational Psychology from a national and international perspective. You will act as a tutor and research supervisor for students on the DAppEdPsy programme. You will be encouraged to engage in scholarly activities and to apply knowledge acquired to teaching and engagement activities. You will contribute, as appropriate, to teaching, tutoring, and supervising within the suite of education programmes offered within the school of ECLS.

Key Accountabilities

Design and deliver high quality teaching and learning material, resources, and activities to students in line with ECLS and Faculty teaching objectives, and carried out within the requiremements of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Standards of Education and Training and the British Psychological Society Standards for Educational Psychology training programmes

Set, mark and assess coursework, providing timely and effective feedback to students

Provide a range of timely student support to enhance student experience and achievements, including personal tutoring

Take responsibility for a defined administrative role such as Module Leader

Supervise and examine DAppEdPsy research theses and, where appropriate, other postgraduate research students

Support the assessment of competence of students on professional practice placements

Provide training for placement supervisors

Evaluate all areas of own practice and undertake continuing professional development

Contribute to the recruitment and selection of trainee educational psychologists

Undertake academic, scholarly, and allocated administrative duties as required by the Head of School

The Person

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Essential

Demonstrable ability to deliver high quality teaching related to Educational Psychology in a Higher Education and/or CPD context

Experience of supervising trainee Educational Psychologists

Professional knowledge gained from employment in a local authority educational psychology service

Evidence of successful engagement in a range of practice developments in Educational Psychology

Knowledge of a wide range of research methods, spanning both quantitative and qualitative approaches

Proven organisational skills

Desirable

Specialist knowledge of an area of Educational Psychology practice

Evidence of engagement with external stakeholders

Evidence of dissemination of own scholarship or practice at regional or national level

Experience of research supervision

Personal tutoring experience

Experience in teaching and assessment in Higher Education

Commitment to personal development and updating of knowledge and skills

Excellent interpersonal skills

Ability to engage with, and respond enthusiastically and positively to students

Qualifications

Essential

PhD or Professional Doctorate (in Educational Psychology)

HCPC registered Educational Psychologist and eligible for chartered membership of the British Psychological Society
