If you are passionate about veterinary education and aspire to shape the future of the profession, this Lecturer position offers an exciting and rewarding career path.

About the Role

The Department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences within the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Surrey is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join their team as a part-time Lecturer. This permanent role, at 0.6 FTE, is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the education of a new generation of veterinary professionals.

As a Lecturer, you will play a pivotal role in:

  • Delivering High-Quality Teaching: Support both theoretical and practical teaching across all years of the veterinary programme. This includes areas such as animal husbandry, veterinary sciences, clinical teaching, and veterinary public health. Your contributions will extend to off-site teaching, including practical experience at their spay and neuter clinic.
  • Assessment and Administration: Contribute to the development and execution of written and practical assessments. You will also be involved in important academic administrative duties, including supporting the delivery and administration of the programme's assessment strategy and ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements.

This role is offered at either Lecturer A or Lecturer B level, with the specific appointment dependent on your experience. The provided salary ranges reflect this, with a competitive package offered commensurate with your qualifications and expertise, including a pro-rata salary and a 10% uplift for MRVCs qualifications.

Key Advantages for Your Career Path:

  • Shaping Future Professionals: This role offers the profound advantage of directly influencing and mentoring the next cohort of veterinarians. Your expertise will guide them through their foundational years and into clinical practice.
  • Diverse Teaching Experience: Gain invaluable experience across the entire veterinary curriculum, from foundational sciences to advanced clinical applications and public health. This breadth of experience is highly beneficial for career progression in academia.
  • Contribution to a Prestigious Institution: Become part of a globally recognized university with a strong reputation for excellence. This association can significantly enhance your professional standing and future opportunities.
  • Part-Time Flexibility: The 0.6 FTE arrangement provides a balance between professional commitment and personal pursuits, offering a structured yet adaptable work schedule.
  • On-Campus Immersion: A structured on-campus commitment during the initial months ensures a supportive integration into the university's academic and research environment, facilitating rapid growth and development.

Key Considerations for Candidates:

  • Essential Qualifications: A veterinary degree and MRVCs are fundamental requirements for this position.
  • Teaching Experience: While experience in an educational or professional setting is highly valued, a strong passion for teaching and a commitment to excellence are paramount.
  • Adaptability and Teamwork: The role demands flexibility, creativity, and strong interpersonal and teamwork skills to thrive in a dynamic academic environment.
  • Working Days: The role requires commitment on Monday, Friday, and either Tuesday or Wednesday, offering a focused yet manageable working week.
  • Initial On-Campus Commitment: Be prepared for a four-day on-campus presence for the first four to six months, a period designed to fully immerse you in the University's ethos and support your integration. This is adjusted proportionally for part-time staff.

If you are a motivated veterinary professional eager to contribute to a leading academic institution and make a tangible impact on veterinary education, this Lecturer position at the University of Surrey presents a compelling opportunity for career advancement and personal fulfillment.
