INTERNAL VACANCY
This vacancy is open to employees of the University of Nottingham only.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Library Adviser to join the Collections Team within the Research, Content and Discovery section. Part of the Libraries department at the University of Nottingham, you will drive one of the library vans to transport items between all campus libraries and stores, allowing library users to access the content they need in a timely fashion. Across the university we have eight different Libraries.
The Collections Team is responsible for managing the print collections within our libraries and store, using collection management policies to guide decision making. As Library Adviser, you will help ensure that library content is managed, delivered and processed efficiently and consistently, particularly at the start and end stages of an item’s lifecycle. The role also involves locating and re-shelving items requested from store, moving loaded trollies of books, and packing/unpacking material in boxes and crates. Together with Libraries’ colleagues, you will have day-to-day responsibility for supporting a range of content services and collection management activities.
You will have experience of library work or a similar role, a working knowledge of core IT systems and a valid driving license which allows you to drive in the UK. You will demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills, meticulous accuracy and attention to detail, and the desire to deliver a professional service to staff and students. Knowledge of library classification schemes would be an advantage, as would experience working in an HE environment.
This is a permanent, full-time role and your working hours will be 36.25 per week. Working alongside an existing Library Adviser, you will spend your time in different locations: visiting all campus libraries to deliver material, at King’s Meadow Campus on Lenton Lane where our off-site store is housed, and in Hallward Library where the Collections team is based. This role is not suitable for hybrid working.
Having colleagues from a wide range of groups and backgrounds is key to a good supportive workplace and even better services. We are particularly keen to receive applications from groups who are currently underrepresented in Libraries in the UK, such as people from Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic backgrounds.
Perhaps you feel you don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that some groups are less likely to apply for jobs unless they match everything, not just the essential criteria. If you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly, we encourage you to apply. You may be just the right candidate.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Jo Wood ([email protected]). Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
