Unlocking Your Potential as a Project Engineer with UK Power Networks

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Project Engineer to join the Capital Programme team at UK Power Networks, based at their London Bidder Street office. As a permanent employee, you'll play a crucial role in delivering vital engineering activities within a dynamic and impactful environment. We are committed to fostering talent and offer a clear path for development, making this role ideal for individuals looking to advance their careers in the energy sector.

Key Advantages for Aspiring Project Engineers:

  • Attractive Remuneration Package: You will receive a competitive salary of £80,574, complemented by a company car and a 3% bonus, reflecting the value placed on your expertise.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Beyond the core package, UK Power Networks offers an impressive array of benefits designed to support your well-being and financial security. This includes:
    • 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays.
    • Generous Reservist Leave provisions.
    • A robust Personal Pension Plan with significant employer contributions (8% or 10% matching your 4% or 5% contribution).
    • Financial assistance through the Tenancy Loan Deposit Scheme and Season Ticket Loan.
    • Tax-efficient benefits such as Cycle to Work, Home & Tech, and Green Car Leasing schemes.
    • Access to Occupational Health support, Switched On discount scheme, discounted gym membership, and an Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Career Development & Training: UK Power Networks recognizes that not every candidate will possess every skill from day one. The organization is committed to your growth, offering opportunities for further training to equip you with essential competencies. If you are a promising candidate who doesn't yet meet all the core grade requirements, there's a possibility of appointment at a lower grade with a clear pathway to develop and progress.
  • Impactful Work: This role directly contributes to the delivery of construction requirements for UK Power Networks' critical assets and associated infrastructure. You'll be involved in projects that ensure the reliable operation of the energy network, providing a tangible sense of purpose.
  • Collaborative Environment: You will be an integral part of the Investment Delivery team, working closely with Programme Managers, Project Managers, Commissioning Engineers, Alliance Partners, Contractors, and other stakeholders. This collaborative setting fosters learning and shared success.
  • Exposure to High Voltage Systems: The role involves working with and ensuring the delivery of construction programmes for UK Power Networks' owned assets operating at voltages from 400V to 132kV, offering invaluable hands-on experience with complex power systems.
  • Safety-Focused Culture: A strong emphasis is placed on safety through the "Stay Safe" initiative and strict adherence to CDM regulations and UK Power Networks' Health and Safety policies. This commitment ensures a secure working environment.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • Essential Skills & Qualifications: While training is available, a strong foundation is beneficial. Key requirements include experience in distribution systems (400V to 132kV), an HNC qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, knowledge of HV distribution systems, and the ability to read schematic drawings. Experience as a Senior Authorised Person (SAP) is preferred but not strictly essential if you hold 11kV authorization, as training can be provided.
  • Problem-Solving & Adaptability: The role demands strong problem-solving skills, the ability to investigate faults, and the capacity to modify equipment and drawings for optimal operation. Flexibility is also key, as you may need to work outside of core hours to respond to system faults.
  • Regulatory Compliance: A thorough understanding of CDM Regulations and UK Power Networks' Health and Safety policies is paramount. You will be responsible for developing site-specific H,S & E procedures and ensuring compliance throughout project delivery.
  • Project Management Fundamentals: While not solely a project management role, you will be involved in aspects of budget management, tracking progress (TQ's, RFI's, EWN's), and coordinating activities to meet time, budget, and quality objectives.
  • Technical Acumen: Operating and maintaining High Voltage Distribution Protection Systems, testing and commissioning these systems, and understanding control and protection mechanisms are core technical responsibilities.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Effective communication with internal teams, external contractors, and clients is crucial for successful project execution and maintaining client satisfaction.

This Project Engineer position offers a compelling blend of challenging work, excellent career progression opportunities, and a supportive benefits package. If you are a motivated and skilled engineer eager to contribute to a vital industry and develop your expertise, this role at UK Power Networks presents a significant opportunity to shape your future.
