Job at SSE in Inverness, Highland Council

Embark on a career-defining journey with SSEN Transmission as a Delivery Project Manager, a pivotal role contributing to a nationally significant infrastructure project. This opportunity offers a unique chance to shape the future of renewable energy in Scotland and gain invaluable experience in a dynamic and forward-thinking organisation.

The Opportunity: Delivery Project Manager – Orkney 220kV Transmission Link

SSEN Transmission is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Delivery Project Manager to spearhead the Onshore Cables Package for the vital Orkney 220kV Transmission Link. This project is at the forefront of connecting renewable energy sources to the GB electricity grid, and your expertise will be instrumental in its successful execution. If you thrive in complex environments, possess a strong track record in managing large-scale infrastructure projects, and are passionate about contributing to a net-zero future, this role is an excellent fit for your career aspirations.

Key Advantages for Your Career Path:

  • Strategic Project Impact: Play a critical role in a high-profile, nationally significant infrastructure project that directly supports the growth of renewable energy. This will provide you with unparalleled experience and exposure to a project with a tangible positive impact.
  • Specialised Expertise: Lead the technically complex Onshore Cables Package, focusing on HVAC and/or HVDC systems. This deep dive into intricate cable delivery will significantly enhance your technical and project management capabilities.
  • Career Development: SSEN Transmission is committed to fostering growth. This role offers excellent prospects for career advancement within a leading energy company actively expanding its offshore and onshore portfolio.
  • Competitive Remuneration & Benefits: A highly competitive salary range of £50,100 - £75,100, complemented by a car or car allowance, a performance-related bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your finances, wellbeing, and family.
  • Flexible Working: Embrace a "Flexible First" approach, allowing for a better work-life balance while still fulfilling the requirements of this crucial role.
  • Location Options: Choose to be based from one of our key Scottish locations: Glasgow, Inverness, Aberdeen, or Perth, offering geographical flexibility.

Key Considerations for Candidates:

  • Technical Proficiency: A strong background in onshore cable delivery, particularly within HVAC/HVDC systems, is essential. Familiarity with CDM regulations and NEC contract frameworks (NEC3/NEC4) is a must.
  • Project Scale: You will be responsible for managing complex packages exceeding £10 million, demanding robust planning, cost control, and risk management skills.
  • Leadership & Teamwork: The ability to build and lead high-performing, multi-disciplinary teams is paramount. Fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and excellence will be a core responsibility.
  • Onsite Presence: While flexible working is encouraged, onsite presence is expected during execution phases (3 days every 2nd week). A valid driving licence is therefore required.
  • Commitment to Net Zero: SSE's ambition to be a leading energy company in a net-zero world is at the heart of its operations. A genuine interest and commitment to this mission will align well with the company culture.

This is more than just a job; it's an opportunity to be part of a transformative project that will shape Scotland's energy landscape for generations to come. If you are a seasoned project manager looking for a challenging yet rewarding role with significant career growth potential, we encourage you to explore this exciting opportunity further.
