Job at London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in Greater London, WC1E

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.

The Department of Health Services Research & Policy conducts research to understand health services and systems, alongside applied research to support clinicians, managers, and policymakers. Our work brings together a wide range of methods, including quantitative evaluation, policy analysis and qualitative studies, and teams from a wide range of disciplines.

We are recruiting a research fellow to contribute to the development and psychometric analysis of a new patient-reported experience measure (PREM) for maternity services in England. The post holder will be supervised by a senior psychometrician (Dr Sarah Smith). The principal investigators are Associate Professors Sarah Smith and Ipek Gurol Urganci.

Applicants should hold a postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline and have proficient skills and experience in psychometric methods (including Rasch-based methods) and also in generating and piloting questionnaire items. Candidates should have ability to work both independently and collaboratively, communication skills (written and spoken) and good organisational skills. Ideally candidates should have knowledge and experience of PROMs and/or PREMs within the NHS. Experience of teaching and assessment and contributing to research grant applications is desirable.

The post is full-time 35 hours per week, 1.0 FTE and fixed term until 30 April 2026. The post is funded by the NIHR and is available from 01 April 2025.

The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary scale, Grade 6 in the range £44,847 - £50,808 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.

Applications should be made on-line via our jobs website. Online applications will be accepted by the automated system until 10pm of the closing date. Any queries regarding the application process may be addressed to jobs@lshtm.ac.uk. Please quote reference PHP-HSRP-2025-05.

Please note that if you are shortlisted and are unable to attend on the interview date it may not be possible to offer you an alternative date.
