Location

This role is based out of our Riverside Tower, Belfast office. We have a hybrid working model of 3 days together, 2 days wherever.

The Orbit Team is part of Consumer Digital, which is responsible for building and managing web applications that are used by Contact centre agents and retail staff. We also build automated solutions to service our customers from faults, ordering, billing, customer comms and product tooling. We use industry leading technologies to deliver brilliant experiences to our user base of over 20k agents that service 30 million customers.

You would be joining us at a very exciting time with an opportunity to put your stamp on our important transformational programme. You’ll have the chance to work in an area of BT that matters greatly to our customers, implementing change that will greatly improve customer experiences.

What you’ll be doing

Platform EngineeringInfrastructure & Systems

Design, build, and maintain scalable platform infrastructure Work with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure) to ensure performance and cost-efficiency Maintain infrastructure as code using tools such as Pulumi

Automation & Tooling

Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines and container orchestration solutions Evaluate and implement tools to improve developer experience and platform stability Introduce new tools or services to enhance infrastructure and operations

Reliability & Monitoring

Ensure security, reliability, and observability across platform components Monitor system health, capacity, and performance; troubleshoot cross-environment issues

Collaboration & Enablement

Collaborate with developers for seamless integration of infrastructure and application code Share knowledge and mentor junior engineers in platform best practices Communicate proactively with cross-functional teams to gather platform requirements

Frontend EngineeringFrontend Application Development

Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable frontend code Translate UI/UX designs into responsive, high-quality interfaces

Team Collaboration

Work with cross-functional teams to define, design, and deliver new features Provide insights and contribute to frontend strategy and best practices

React Development

Extend and maintain new user journeys using ReactJS Build reusable component libraries to promote consistency and code quality Write testable, maintainable code using tools like React Testing Library, Selenium, and Cypress

GraphQL Backend for Frontend (BFF)

Develop and maintain a GraphQL layer using Apollo Server Integrate with downstream systems to deliver frontend-friendly APIs

Low-Code Platform Support

Maintain existing user-facing applications built on the OutSystems low-code platform

Quality Assurance

Test UI elements for functionality and visual consistency Troubleshoot and resolve frontend bugs and performance issues

Continuous Learning

Stay current with emerging frontend technologies and low-code development trends

General ResponsibilitiesProfessional Growth & Learning

Skills and Experience

Must have:

Hands on AWS/GCP cloud migration Strong knowledge on web-based frameworks and latest technologies, such as JavaScript and React, and good knowledge of UI design. Troubleshooting skills Should have working experience on Micro service-based arch and cloud-based solutions Delivering positive customer experience and service delivered through the software developed Managing stakeholder requirements and communications Creating a culture of continuous development and learning that nurtures a world class software development practice Effective verbal and written communication skills B.E. degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience

Desirable:

Portfolio of completed frontend projects, including work with modern frameworks and technologies. Specifically experience using Typescript/ReactJS/GraphQL is highly desirable. Working knowledge of performance tuning of application and continuous integration techniques. Experience with writing Unit tests using a framework such as React testing library or experience with a E2E testing framework such as Cypress or Selenium
