Job at Vestas in Edinburgh, Edinburgh

Are you a passionate engineer driven by the mission to create a more sustainable world? Do you thrive on the technical intricacies of large-scale offshore wind projects and excel at collaborating with clients to develop bespoke tower and foundation designs? If so, Vestas presents an exceptional opportunity to join a leading force in the renewable energy sector and contribute to some of the most challenging and impactful projects globally.

This role is situated within Vestas Technology & Operations (VTO), the engine room for Vestas's technological advancements and industrial processes. Specifically, you'll be part of the NCE Offshore Technical Sales Management team, serving as a critical nexus between our regional business unit and our central Technology & Research & Development (R&D) functions. Your expertise will directly influence the technical solutions delivered to our offshore wind customers, bridging the gap between their needs and our global product development efforts.

Key Responsibilities and Advantages for Candidates:

  • Direct Impact on Project Design: You will be instrumental in the site-specific integrated load analysis, tower, and foundation design process. This hands-on involvement ensures your technical contributions have a tangible and direct impact on the success of offshore wind farms.
  • Client Collaboration & Solution Optimization: Engage directly with customers and their foundation designers to deliver optimized, timely, and compliant technical solutions. This offers a fantastic opportunity to hone your client-facing and problem-solving skills while ensuring project value and risk mitigation.
  • Interface Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a key interface between commercial sales, construction project management, customers, and central engineering teams. This broad interaction will significantly enhance your understanding of the entire project lifecycle and your ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships.
  • Tender Clarification & Optimization: Respond to customer inquiries and prepare clarifications and deviations related to loads and support structures. You'll also evaluate and document optimization opportunities for tower and foundation designs, directly contributing to project value enhancement.
  • Project Design Certification: You will be the point of contact for the project design certifier, managing and ensuring the successful completion of project design certification activities, providing valuable experience in regulatory compliance and quality assurance.
  • Market Insight & Product Development: Identify market trends and customer requirements to feed into the development of new products, tools, and processes. This provides an opportunity to influence the future direction of Vestas's offshore wind technology.
  • In-house Capability Development: Play a role in strengthening Vestas's internal capabilities for foundation design analysis, allowing for strategic application of conclusions in both technical and commercial contexts.

Qualifications and Competencies for Career Growth:

  • Solid Engineering Foundation: A B.Sc. or M.Sc. in a relevant engineering field is essential, providing the technical bedrock for this role.
  • Specialized Offshore Experience: Experience in offshore loads or support structure design is a significant advantage, demonstrating your immediate readiness to tackle complex engineering challenges. Previous experience in the wind energy sector will further accelerate your integration.
  • Global Project Exposure: The opportunity to work on large-scale, international projects with demanding clients will significantly broaden your professional horizons and equip you with invaluable global project management skills.
  • Communication & Presentation Excellence: Strong communication skills are paramount, especially the ability to confidently present complex technical topics to a diverse range of stakeholders. This is a crucial area for developing leadership potential.
  • Technical Acumen: Knowledge of offshore turbine load evaluation, relevant standards (e.g., IEC 61400-1, IEC 61400-3-1), and offshore tower and foundation designs and standards (e.g., Eurocode 3, IEC 61400-6, DNVGL-ST-0126) is highly beneficial and will be further developed in this role.
  • Customer Focus & Relationship Building: A strong customer focus, coupled with the ability to build networks and manage relationships with clients and their consultants, is key to success and career progression.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in business English is required. Additional Scandinavian or European languages would be a distinct asset, reflecting the international nature of the role.

What Vestas Offers:

Vestas is more than just a company; it's a pioneer in sustainable energy solutions. This role offers an exciting and inspiring career path within the leading entity in the wind energy industry. You will be at the forefront of the offshore wind sector, with ample opportunities for professional and personal development. Vestas fosters a culture of responsiveness and innovation, allowing you to explore cutting-edge solutions within a truly global environment, working alongside a diverse, skilled, and knowledgeable team. This position serves as an excellent stepping stone for an expansive career within Vestas.

Location: Opportunities are available in Edinburgh, GB, or Aarhus, DK. The role may involve up to approximately 25 days of travel per year across the region, offering a dynamic and varied work experience.

Vestas is committed to a fair and inclusive hiring process, valuing all candidates based on their professional merits. Your unique perspective is crucial in helping us power the solution for a sustainable, green energy future.
