Job at Barclays in Birmingham, West Midlands

Director, Asset Based Lending Origination: Chart Your Course in a Leading ABL Platform

For seasoned professionals with a deep understanding of Asset Based Lending (ABL) and Invoice Finance, this Director role presents a compelling opportunity to significantly impact the growth of a leading ABL platform. This position is ideal for a strategic, commercially driven individual looking to leverage their expertise in a client-facing capacity, driving substantial transactions within the UK Corporate Bank.

What This Opportunity Offers:

  • Strategic Impact: You will be instrumental in shaping the growth and direction of a leading ABL platform, with the ability to innovate and challenge the status quo to maintain a market-leading proposition.
  • Deal Origination & Execution: This role focuses on originating, structuring, and executing ABL transactions of significant size (greater than £15m), offering the chance to directly contribute to the bank's revenue generation and client success.
  • Client Engagement & Relationship Building: Build and nurture strong relationships with corporate clients, private equity sponsors, and debt advisors. This is a key aspect of the role, requiring excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams across Global Transaction Banking (GTB) and Barclays Corporate Banking, identifying cross-sell opportunities and ensuring seamless, client-first service delivery.
  • Market Leadership & Brand Enhancement: Represent the bank at industry events and conferences, enhancing brand visibility and actively contributing to deal flow. You'll also be responsible for monitoring market trends and competitor activity to identify strategic opportunities.
  • Career Development: This position offers significant career development and leadership opportunities, allowing you to grow as an individual contributor or a people manager. The environment fosters a performance culture aligned with the business's values.
  • Competitive Rewards: Benefit from a competitive compensation package, including performance-based incentives, and the chance to join a collaborative and dynamic working environment.

Key Considerations for Aspiring Candidates:

  • Deep ABL Expertise: A minimum of 10 years of experience in ABL, leveraged finance, or structured lending is essential. A proven track record in originating and executing complex ABL transactions, with a strong understanding of receivables, inventory, and asset-based structures, is critical.
  • Commercial Acumen: The role demands a commercially driven approach, with a focus on developing compelling sales pitches, negotiating terms, and understanding the financial goals and challenges of clients.
  • Credit & Analytical Prowess: Strong financial and analytical skills are paramount, including experience with credit analysis, product-specific due diligence, and understanding regulatory requirements.
  • Network & Relationship Management: An established network of corporate clients, sponsors, and intermediaries is a significant advantage. The ability to effectively manage and build upon these relationships is key to success.
  • Strategic Thinking: You'll need to be a strategic thinker, able to analyze market trends, identify opportunities, and contribute to function-wide strategic initiatives and policy development.
  • Leadership & Influence: Whether leading a team or driving organization-wide projects, strong leadership capabilities, including the ability to guide and coach others, are expected. You'll also need to influence stakeholders at senior levels, both internally and externally.
  • Client-Centricity: A genuine "client first" mindset is non-negotiable, guiding your approach to service delivery, problem-solving, and relationship management.

This Director role is an exceptional opportunity for a highly skilled and motivated professional to make a substantial contribution to a dynamic ABL team. If you are ready to lead, innovate, and drive significant business growth, this position offers a rewarding and impactful career path.
