The University of West London (UWL) presents an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Wellbeing Adviser (Mental Health) to join its highly-regarded Student Services / Wellbeing Service. Recognized for its strong performance in national university guides and its commitment to student satisfaction, UWL offers a dynamic and supportive environment for its staff.

This role is integral to the Wellbeing Service, a multidisciplinary team focused on providing comprehensive support to students. As a Wellbeing Adviser, you will play a pivotal part in ensuring students' mental health and disability needs are met, fostering their academic success and personal development. The service operates with a holistic approach, aiming to address individual student requirements to enhance their overall university experience.

Key Advantages for Potential Candidates:

  • Impactful Role: Directly contribute to student wellbeing and success by providing specialist advice, guidance, and support. This is a chance to make a tangible difference in students' lives during a critical period of their academic journey.
  • Professional Development: The role involves developing Individual Support Plans (ISPs), assessing risk, and offering short-term case holding. You will also have opportunities to support colleagues in the Disability team, gaining broader experience in student support, with additional training provided.
  • Collaborative Environment: Become part of a "tight-knit team" described as busy, in-demand, supportive, and fun. This suggests a positive and encouraging workplace culture where mutual assistance is valued.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • Specialist Focus: This role requires a strong background in supporting individuals with poor mental health, including experience with mental health crises. Your expertise in providing specialist 1:1 advice and support for recovery will be paramount.
  • On-Campus Presence: The position requires working from campus five days a week, offering consistent student interaction and integration within the university community.
  • Interdisciplinary Support: While the primary focus is mental health, be prepared to offer support to students with a range of disabilities. This offers a chance to broaden your skillset within a supportive framework.
  • Risk Assessment and Referral: A significant aspect of the role involves assessing risk and making appropriate internal and external referrals, requiring sound judgment and knowledge of support networks.
  • Application Process: Please note that applications are reviewed intermittently, and the role may close prior to the advertised date if a suitable candidate is found. It is advisable to apply early.
