Career Opportunity: Customer Services Adviser - University of Nottingham Libraries

This is an exciting opportunity for an internal candidate at the University of Nottingham to join our dynamic Customer Services Team within the University Libraries. If you are passionate about providing exceptional customer service, thrive in a varied and challenging environment, and enjoy working within a multicultural community, this role could be an excellent step in your career journey.

Key Advantages for Potential Candidates:

  • Impactful Role: As the first point of contact for students, academic staff, and visitors, you will play a crucial role in shaping their library experience, ensuring a warm welcome and efficient assistance both in-person and virtually.
  • Skill Development: You will receive comprehensive training in essential library systems and facilities, including IT systems, printers, and AV equipment. This training will equip you to confidently handle a wide range of queries and requests, fostering your technical proficiency and problem-solving abilities.
  • Diverse Environment: Working across different library locations on campus will expose you to a rich, multicultural community, offering a dynamic and engaging work setting.
  • Career Growth: The role encourages continuous learning and development, with opportunities to expand your skills and share your knowledge. You'll be empowered to provide guidance and solutions, contributing to your professional growth.
  • Supportive Workplace: The University is committed to fostering a supportive workplace and values diversity. They are particularly keen to receive applications from individuals who are currently underrepresented within UK libraries, promoting an inclusive and equitable environment.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Beyond the intrinsic rewards of the role, you will benefit from a competitive employment package designed to support your well-being and potential. This includes access to leading fitness and health facilities, staff discounts, travel schemes, a generous holiday allowance, and a pension scheme.

Key Considerations for Your Application:

  • Internal Opportunity: Please note that this vacancy is open to current employees of the University of Nottingham only.
  • Fixed-Term Contract: These are part-time, fixed-term positions that will end on 31 July 2026.
  • Flexible Working: While offering variety, the role requires occasional travel to different libraries across Nottingham campuses to ensure full service delivery.
  • Specific Timetables: Each post comes with a defined timetable, and applicants must be able to commit to all advertised hours for their preferred position. It is crucial to detail your preferred posts in order of preference within your application.
  • Training Requirements: Be aware that some training may occur outside of the advertised hours and may include practical elements such as operating an evacuation chair. You will also be required to work one public holiday/University Closure Day per year.
  • Adaptability: The role involves responding to a range of queries and situations, some of which can be unpredictable. Confidence, strong communication skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a knack for quickly learning new processes and technologies are essential.
  • Prior Experience: Demonstrable experience working in a customer-focused environment is a key requirement.

This position offers a fantastic chance to enhance your customer service expertise within a respected academic institution. By understanding the responsibilities and benefits outlined, you can best tailor your application to showcase your suitability and passion for this rewarding role.
