Birmingham City University is recruiting Executive Personal Assistants to join our newly established School Leadership Teams. In this pivotal role, you will provide high-level executive support to a Dean of School and play an integral part in delivering the priorities of the University’s ambitious, future-focused Strategic Plan.
We are looking for highly organised, proactive, and detail-driven individuals who thrive in fast-paced environments. As an Executive Personal Assistant, you will work closely with a Dean of School, offering confidential, professional support and ensuring the smooth coordination of day-to-day operations. Exceptional communication skills, sound judgement, and the ability to manage a dynamic workload are essential.
Reporting to the Director of School Operations, you will take ownership of your workload, manage a complex diary, and work flexibly to ensure key business needs, activities and deadlines are met. Building strong relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders will be crucial to your success, as will your ability to support the planning and delivery of key events.
You will bring substantial experience as an Executive Assistant or senior administrator, with a strong track record of managing complex diaries and providing high-level support. You will be educated to degree level or hold an equivalent professional qualification, or be able to demonstrate relevant experience that showcases your initiative, decision-making and problem-solving abilities needed to operate effectively in a fast-paced, multifaceted environment.
With exceptional interpersonal skills, you will communicate with clarity, confidence and diplomacy, maintaining absolute discretion when managing confidential or sensitive matters. Your ability to process and interpret large volumes of information swiftly, including producing accurate minutes, records, and follow-up actions, will be critical. You will also be adept at working under pressure, balancing competing priorities, and meeting tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
This is a hybrid role, with three days per week on campus (subject to business need). The positions are based at our City Centre campus, and some cross-campus travel may be required.
The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. Appointees with prior LGPS membership who wish to enter the LGPS scheme will be able to do so and will be employed by Birmingham City University directly.
We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and to an environment that supports lawful free speech and academic freedom. We will continuously review and improve our policies, practices, and procedures to ensure that we are promoting these in all aspects of our operations. We believe that by working together, combining our many different backgrounds and life experiences, we will empower each other to reach our full potential.
