Are you a seasoned insurance professional with a passion for large-scale infrastructure and a commitment to a sustainable future? SSE is seeking a high-impact Insurance Specialist to play a critical role in delivering the insurance strategy for major transmission projects. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the ambitious goals of a leading energy company at the forefront of the net-zero transition.

What This Opportunity Offers:

  • Impactful Work: You'll be at the heart of capital delivery, working with an innovative team to effectively mitigate risks through comprehensive insurance strategies for vital transmission infrastructure.
  • Career Growth & Development: This role offers significant scope for professional development, allowing you to deepen your expertise in managing complex insurance programs for large capital projects and engage directly with the London insurance market.
  • Competitive Package: Beyond a competitive salary, you'll benefit from a performance-related bonus and a comprehensive suite of benefits designed to support your financial wellbeing, personal health, and family needs.
  • Flexibility: SSE is committed to offering flexible working options, with "Flexible First" opportunities available, supporting a healthy work-life balance. You'll have a choice of base locations in Glasgow, Aberdeen, or a flexible arrangement.
  • Join a Forward-Thinking Organisation: Become part of SSE's bold ambition to be a leading energy company in a net-zero world, investing heavily in homegrown energy and pioneering advancements in offshore wind and grid transformation.

Key Responsibilities to Drive Your Career Forward:

In this pivotal role, you will:

  • Spearhead insurance input throughout the entire lifecycle of transmission projects, from initial development to execution.
  • Master the intricacies of Owner Controlled Insurance Programmes (OCIPs), contractual risk reviews, and robust governance processes.
  • Manage insurance budgeting and reporting for large-scale capital projects, ensuring financial clarity and control.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Insurance Manager on the strategic marketing and placement of major projects within the dynamic London insurance market.
  • Provide crucial support for claims resolution and recovery, working collaboratively with legal and finance teams to navigate complex claims and capture valuable lessons learned.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to project stakeholders, expertly guiding them on insurance obligations, indemnity clauses, and interface risks to ensure seamless contractual governance.

What SSE is Looking For in a Candidate:

To thrive in this role, you will bring:

  • Extensive Experience: Significant experience in insurance for large capital projects, with a strong preference for candidates with a background in the transmission or infrastructure sectors and demonstrated knowledge of Owner Controlled Insurance Programmes.
  • Contractual Acumen: Proven strength in contract review and negotiation, particularly in relation to large-scale offshore projects.
  • Exceptional Stakeholder Management: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong collaborative relationships across legal, procurement, finance, and project delivery teams.
  • Governance Understanding: A solid grasp of governance frameworks and risk transfer mechanisms essential for major projects.
  • Proactive and Inquisitive Mindset: A natural inclination to approach challenges with a problem-solving attitude, bringing diverse perspectives and a proactive energy to the team.

Considerations for Your Career Path:

This role is an excellent stepping stone for insurance professionals looking to make a tangible contribution to the energy transition. It offers exposure to some of the UK's most significant infrastructure developments and provides an opportunity to work within a supportive and forward-thinking team. The emphasis on flexible working and comprehensive benefits underscores SSE's commitment to its employees' wellbeing, making this a role that values both professional achievement and personal fulfillment.
