Learning Support Coordinator

Job at University of Brighton in Brighton, Brighton and Hove, BN2

We are looking for a part-time Learning Support Coordinator to join our Disability and Dyslexia Team on a fixed term contract.

About the role:

As part of a wider Student Wellbeing Team, you will work creatively with students and staff to determine what reasonable adjustments are required to minimise barriers to learning for disabled students. Disabled students represent a large proportion of our university community and this is growing year on year. Approximately 33% students at the University of Brighton have told us about a disability, and we have over 5000 students with active Learning Support Plans. This includes those with specific learning differences, physical and sensory impairments, mental health and autistic spectrum conditions, as well as other disabilities and long-term medical conditions.  We are aiming to ‘level the playing field’ for our disabled students to enable them to reach their potential. We are a friendly welcoming team and there are lots of opportunities for staff development.

Responsibilities:

Offer students 1-2-1 appointments, either face-to-face or via Microsoft Teams, to gather information that supplements their formal disability evidence.Use this information to create a personalised Learning Support Plan.Support students applying for funded support, such as Disabled Students Allowances, and provide general disability advice to both students and staff. This may include contributing to disability training events.

About you:

You will bring to the team a knowledge of Further/Higher Education, a broad base of disability knowledge/good practice and a passion for enhancing the student experience. We are particularly looking for candidates with a strong knowledge and/or background in Autism who would be willing to lead on projects in this area.

This is a temporary Maternity cover position, 22.0 hours or 3 days per week until July 2026 and we welcome applications from job sharers. We are also open to these hours being worked flexibly across 4/5 days. A DBS check will be required for this role.

We offer a competitive range of benefits, including an agile working system with time split between working on campus and at the employee's home. It is the University's expectation that home working will take place within the UK.

We expect interviews to take place week commencing 28th July.
