Based in the eastern region, encompassing Hertfordshire, Essex, and East Anglia, this role offers a chance to work on impactful projects across a large and vital capital programme. If you're driven by technical challenges and committed to ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of high-voltage electrical systems, this could be your next career step.

  • Attractive Remuneration: A competitive annual salary of £80,574, complemented by a 3% bonus, reflecting the importance and responsibility of this role.
  • Exceptional Benefits Package: Beyond the base salary, UK Power Networks offers a robust suite of benefits designed to support your well-being and financial security. This includes:
    • Generous annual leave (25 days plus bank holidays) and additional reservist leave.
    • A substantial Personal Pension Plan with significant employer contributions (8% or 10% matching your 4% or 5% contribution).
    • Financial assistance schemes like the Tenancy Loan Deposit Scheme and Season Ticket Loan.
    • Tax-efficient benefits including Cycle to Work, Home & Tech, and Green Car Leasing.
    • Comprehensive support through Occupational Health, an Employee Assistance Programme, and discounted gym membership.
    • Access to the "Switched On" scheme for discounts at numerous retailers.
  • Career Development and Mentorship: The role emphasizes growth and development. You'll have the opportunity to mentor and coach junior engineers, aiding in their authorisations and professional development, fostering a collaborative and learning-oriented environment.
  • Strategic Impact: This position places you at the heart of a circa £150M annual capital programme. You'll be responsible for ensuring the safe and compliant commissioning of multi-million-pound installations, directly contributing to the reliability and advancement of the UK's power network.
  • Technical Expertise and Leadership: You will be instrumental in testing and proving plant and equipment before it enters service. This involves providing technical advice, managing commissioning plans, and liaising with contract engineers, all while upholding stringent UKPN policies and procedures. The opportunity to operate the network up to and including 132kV from an Authorised Person perspective is a significant technical advancement.
  • Project Lifecycle Involvement: You will be involved in the full project lifecycle, from initial concept (Gate A) through to project close-out (Gate D), providing crucial input on quality and deliverability.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • Qualifications and Experience: A solid foundation in Electrical Engineering (HNC/HND) is essential, coupled with demonstrable experience in Primary Substation and Cable/OHL systems within a project delivery environment. Holding full AP status for at least two voltage levels is a requirement.
  • Professional Affiliation: Membership with the IET and EngTech status, with a trajectory towards IEng, is expected, underscoring a commitment to professional standards.
  • Operational Background: A minimum of three years of operational experience within the Primary and Secondary network of a DNO is crucial, alongside a NEBOSH General or Construction qualification.
  • Safety and Regulatory Compliance: A strong understanding and practical application of CDM regulations, ISO9001 quality processes, and relevant safety & environmental regulations are vital. Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, including Project, is also expected.
  • Role Scope and Responsibility: This is a hands-on role with significant accountability, including managing multiple projects, supervising teams, signing off multi-million-pound installations, and ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures. The ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines is paramount.
  • Adaptability and Initiative: A flexible attitude towards work and working hours, coupled with the ability to work independently and take initiative to solve problems, will be key to success in this role.
  • Medical and Background Checks: Please be aware that successful candidates will be required to undergo a medical examination and a DBS reference check.
