The School of Education and English (EDEN) at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) presents an exciting opportunity for an accomplished teacher trainer and scholar to assume the role of Director for the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE) programme. This pivotal position, commencing in February 2026, offers a chance to lead a significant academic offering within a globally connected institution.

About the Opportunity:

As the Director of the PGCHE programme, you will be instrumental in managing modules crucial for academics seeking qualification and accreditation to teach within the UK higher education system. This role involves delivering and assessing the programme's curriculum, which is accredited by Advance HE, enabling participants to achieve Associate Fellow or Fellow status of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). Beyond the core PGCHE, you will spearhead the development of bespoke teacher training workshops and programmes, with an ambitious vision to establish UNNC as a leader in both local and international teacher training and professional development.

This position also offers substantial research avenues. You will be empowered to seek grants and lead research projects focused on teacher training and professional development, both regionally and globally. Furthermore, you will contribute to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Science's Area Studies research initiatives and engage in vital knowledge exchange collaborations with UNNC’s UNESCO Office and the University of Nottingham, UK’s, UNESCO Chair.

Key Advantages for Candidates:

  • Leadership and Impact: Take the helm of a critical higher education qualification programme, directly shaping the development of educators.
  • Global Reach and Vision: Drive the expansion of teacher training initiatives, positioning UNNC as a prominent force in global professional development.
  • Research Excellence: Engage in impactful research, with dedicated support for grant capture and leadership in areas of educational significance.
  • Collaborative Environment: Work within a tri-campus institution (China, UK, Malaysia) fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and expertise.
  • Strategic Location: Be part of a vibrant and growing academic community in Ningbo, China, with access to state-of-the-art facilities.
  • Attractive Remuneration: Benefit from a highly competitive international salary package, comprehensive benefits including accommodation allowance, health insurance, schooling assistance for dependents, home flights, and relocation support.
  • Career Progression: The role offers a fixed-term contract of up to 5 years, with potential for extension, providing stability and a platform for long-term career development.

Key Considerations for Candidates:

  • Academic and Professional Qualifications: Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in education, language education, teacher education, curriculum and instruction, or a closely related field. Crucially, possession of Senior Fellow status (or higher) with the Higher Education Academy (HEA) is a prerequisite.
  • Experience: Demonstrated recent experience in developing and delivering teacher training and professional development programmes is essential. A track record of excellence in higher education administration is also vital.
  • Research Acumen: A strong record of global research and grant capture, with a specific focus on teacher training and professional development, will be highly valued.
  • Strategic Alignment: Candidates should be adept at aligning their research interests with the department's and faculty's strategic research priorities.
  • Administrative Skills: The ability to effectively manage academic programmes and contribute to departmental administration is a key requirement.

This role is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced academic leader to make a significant contribution to higher education pedagogy and professional development on a global scale. If you possess the requisite expertise and are driven by a passion for shaping the future of education, we encourage you to explore this distinguished position.
