The organization manages a substantial portfolio of properties, providing a home for approximately 6,500 students annually. As the Residences Out of Hours and Life Manager, you will be at the forefront of ensuring a supportive, engaging, and safe living environment for these students. This pivotal position involves leading a dedicated team responsible for delivering essential out-of-hours residential services and orchestrating vibrant student life cycle events.

Key Responsibilities and Advantages for Candidates:

  • Leadership and Team Development: You will have the opportunity to lead and mentor a team, fostering a culture of service excellence and driving continuous improvement. This is a chance to hone your leadership skills and build a high-performing unit.
  • Operational Management: This role offers comprehensive oversight of crucial operational aspects, including managing contract performance for security services across multiple residential sites. Your strategic input will directly impact the safety and efficiency of the residences.
  • Student Welfare and Resolution: A core focus will be on student discipline and resolution processes, including the investigation of complex cases. This presents a valuable opportunity to develop expertise in conflict resolution and support student well-being.

  • Problem-Solving and Stakeholder Management: Handling formal complaints and appeals with professionalism and care, alongside supporting communications and engagement strategies, will allow you to refine your stakeholder management and problem-solving abilities.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • Flexible Working Arrangements: This part-time, fixed-term role (0.8 FTE) offers a unique working pattern designed to provide a good work-life balance. You will work two days per week from 2pm-10pm, with two additional days at a time of your choosing. This flexibility can be highly advantageous for individuals seeking to manage personal commitments alongside their professional development.
  • Out-of-Hours Commitment: A willingness to contribute to the out-of-hours on-call rota is essential, reflecting the nature of residential support services. This demonstrates a commitment to student safety and accessibility outside of standard working hours.
  • Peak Period Demand: Be prepared for some weekend working during peak times, particularly between June and October, coinciding with recruitment, departure, and arrival periods. This requires adaptability and a proactive approach to managing workload during busy phases.
  • Fixed-Term Maternity Cover: This is a one-year fixed-term position covering maternity leave. While offering a substantial period to gain valuable experience and contribute meaningfully, candidates should be aware of the contract duration.
  • Career Growth: This role provides an excellent platform to gain diverse management experience in a student-focused environment. The skills and exposure gained in operational management, student welfare, event planning, and team leadership are highly transferable and can significantly enhance your career trajectory.
