BCU Sport is seeking to appoint a Sport Development Officer to lead and manage its Active Wellbeing provision. The role would suit an individual with experience of managing an Active Wellbeing provision within an education setting. This role will develop and deliver the Active strand of the BCU Sport and Active 2030 strategy, with the aim of increasing activity levels and general health of students at BCU through a wide-ranging and accessible programme. The postholder will be coordinating and managing the planning, recruitment, promotion and delivery of mental and physical health based classes, social and recreational sport activities, active travel opportunities, major city based events promotion, and the development of local club and society links.
Role Responsibilities:
Leading on the BCU Active programme to develop opportunities for increased engagement in physical activity.Leading & overseeing the BCU Active coaches / instructors on a daily basis and ensure all activities are carried out to a high standard.Organising, leading, and developing new active classes and sessions based on student need in conjunction with and based on student need, feedback as well as societies and groups. Increasing participation levels through the introduction of more diverse physical activity timetables.Supporting the Director of Sport and Physical Activity in liaising with local sports organisations/authorities to build formal partnerships that will benefit both students and local communities. Working in conjunction with a range of departments within BCU and external partnerships delivering a range of recruitment events. Ensuring that all activities are safe by working within the University Health and Safety guidelines.Continuing to develop and offer student employability and volunteering opportunities.Maximising the exposure of BCU Active through the management of a range of social media and communication methods. Producing social media content for the Active and Sport channels.Supporting the Sport and Active department in its day to day delivery across the UniversityProviding termly reporting information to the Director of Sport and Physical Activity.Providing general administrative support as part of the BCU Sport Development team.Role Requirements:
Experience in creating, managing, delivering and enhancing a physical activity programme within a university environment.Be experienced in recruiting and managing instructors and coaches in the fitness and wellness industry.Experience of planning, creating and delivering media and social media content for the promotion and development of an active programme.Experience of working with and managing students in a higher education setting.Experience of developing external partnerships with local and regional sporting and physical activity agenciesHold a valid UK driving licenseDemonstrate commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring all services and communications are accessible and inclusive to BCU's diverse student population and sporting provision.Experience of cross departmental programme development and working within a large organisation is desirable.Understanding of safeguarding, health and safety, and risk management in a student setting would be beneficial.We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and to an environment that supports lawful free speech and academic freedom. The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. Appointees with prior LGPS membership who wish to enter the LGPS scheme will be able to do so and will be employed by Birmingham City University directly.
