This vacancy is open to employees of the University of Nottingham only.

We are recruiting an Interim Deputy Director to join our HR team. This strategic leadership role is essential for our university. It ensures the delivery of excellent, agile, responsive, and reliable HR operational services that support the entire employee life cycle, including HR management and information services. As a key member of the department’s senior team, you will help ensure that HR makes a meaningful contribution to the university's objectives.

You will provide strategic leadership for HR Operations, including Resourcing, Global Mobility, Immigration, Employment Services and HR Management Information Services. You will ensure HR Operations are aligned with and support the delivery of the university’s People and Culture Strategic Delivery Plan. Working closely with colleagues across HR and the wider university, you will ensure that HR Operations contributes to both the university’s objectives and the overall success of the HR department. This includes delivering the HR Operational Delivery Plan and fostering a united, energised and collaborative team. You will also lead the development of HR Shared Services and Global Mobility to support the university’s strategic goals.

You bring proven management and leadership experience in a large, complex environment. You have successfully led cross-functional teams with diverse specialisms, ensuring effective delivery in such settings. Your deep understanding of HR strategy, operations and data management enables you to drive key HR initiatives. Additionally, your effective communication skills allow you to convey information clearly and persuasively to influence diverse audiences.

As an experienced collaborator, you will continue to grow internal and external relationships at all levels across the university, especially within the senior management teams, to secure ownership of changes and to ensure that the HR department makes an effective contribution to the achievement of the University’s objectives.

You have an in-depth knowledge of HR strategy, data management techniques and framework development. You will be experienced in leading the development of a performance culture. Therefore, expertise in leading transformational change involving business processes, innovation and organisational change is essential.

This role is offered on a full-time (36.25 hour), fixed term or secondment basis for 6 months. Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
